We have just returned from a night at River Cottage. Wow!!! How peaceful and beautiful...we will definitely be back and what is part of why it is sooooo wonderful is that it takes us only 30 mins to get there! No noise, no fuss just tranquility...wonderful!Next time we will stay longer!!

River Cottage was our special bush home for three nights mid-November and we could've stayed forever. The hot dry conditions and scanty water holes had an unexpected upside. After our usual sleep in, wildlife were still out scrounging or lounging during daytime walks, and we met lots: wombats, wild pigs, kangaroos & euros, peregrine falcons, glossy cockatoos, red-bellied black snake (away from cottage), and plenty of other small birds. The river gorges are impressive in both directions, and the indigenous feel of this ancient land is palpable. Our favourite dunking pool at The Corner also proudly yielded a carp for dinner, probably the first fished there (its a pest) - lightly pan-fried. Washed down with Mudgee wines, of course. What a memorable, relaxing communion with nature, and so quiet! Julia and Colin were perfect hosts, who also made us aware of the threat of nearby coalmining to this paradise. To those who follow us, one word: Enjoy! And why not check the Whiteley...

Sunday 18 November 2007.On our way to Mudgee to pick up a companion miniature schnauzer for Dharma the three of us overnighted at River Cottage. We had a magical night by candlelight on the verandah. The silence deafening, the herbaceous bush air intoxicating.....or was that the bottle of Tyrells Vat 1? We slept like babies. Didn't hear the wombat but were amazed to see the size of his burrow (?) on a walk the next morning.A magical place. Now that we are home it seems like a wonderful dream. Love the bathroom !

We've just returned from the River Cottage - perfect. We noticed that most folk sign the physical guest book - mostly because they are on holiday. We were there to work! We came for the peace and quiet so that we could think. Astonishingly the lyre birds declaimed in the morning and evening suggesting that they were related to R2D2. The resident wombat rootled around in the evenings. Something (we don't know what) rustled in the roof. In all, our quiet week was fabulous... we even slept for 12 hours. Our best moment was when the blue eyed dog took us for a walk to wave rock. We had a great time. Thankyou.
