I regret to inform that Rick Ristau has been diagnosed with cancer in his spleen, lymph nodes, bones and blood. This news comes on top of the odds he has already beaten with his congestive heart failure fatal predictions about 18 months ago. That was supposed to kill him by last October, but didn’t. We can only hope and pray for another miracle in this case. Rick was my RTO in the 4.2 mortar platoon in 1969, and later wounded while serving in the recon platoon. He was and is one of the finest examples of Americans defending and serving their country that I have ever known. A benefit in his honor, and to help with the many expenses that the not so fine Minneapolis VA has never yet paid, will be held at the Eagles Nest in Mankato, Mn. on March 3rd from 4PM to midnight. The address is 708 North Riverfront Drive for anyone who can attend. Anyone who would like to forward a donation to this cause can send it to me (I will be there) or to Rick’s wife directly. He has been to several reunions, and you may remember him as the guy who manages to down all the food served with no teeth. He has them, just hates them. A good guy who loved the Triple Deuce as his other family a lot. I am not asking the Vietnam Triple Deuce or 22nd Infantry Regiment Society for a donation here. That precedent could break both banks as the membership all face this same event in our own lives. I am simply using this forum to let those who knew or know Rick about this bad news, and hope that some of you can join me in honoring him in March. I am trying to help my dad find some of his old Army buddies. I know that he was at least at Giessen because I remember that name on some of his photographs. He did his training with the 101st Airborne at Camp Breckinridge, KY then was sent to this group in Germany. Thank you. Making sure that our men had everything that they wanted was my primary job. I am proud of those young men that were giving 100% 24/7 out in the bush. God Bless You All. Message Number: 946 - Tuesday, January 3, 2012 17:13:34 PST [IP = 24.16.240.153] -United States ![]()

I have so many memories of those I served with. From Jake my Platoon SFC, Pagonis, Ackerman, Allman, Sgt Gray. Nowak, Nuckols, Vecera, Robinette, Reese and so many more. To this day and for the last 41 years I have pour a shot of Johnny Walker Red for each of our own that gave their all during my tour. I do this on Christmas Eve and the older I get the harder it is to drink that much Johnny Walker at once but I still give it hell!! Its my way of remembering always their sacrifices. I wasn't on a line track. I was 11C and was in the Mortar Plt. I wish everyone a very Happy New Year. Served at Giessen and Kirchgoens, Germany. Served six years in the US Army. while I only served 2 years with the 22nd, I consider it my Army home. Was 14 years old when I joined the Army later transferred to the 22nd from an MP Unit in France. "Fessed up" while with the 22nd under Col. Edwards. Was permitted to finish my enlistment under my own name. I live in Rome, Italy since I retired as an IRS special agent in 1990. Vince Gambino RA 12366557 Rome, Italy
