I enjoyed visiting this website. My father, Allen D. Boyes served aboard the Providence during the 1960-61 timeframe. He was working in the OE Division as Jr. Divo (CWO-2). He retired at NavComSta Hono, Hawaii, North of Wahiawa, as a full CDR in 1975. He passed away in June of 2016 of natural causes. We sure miss him.



I retired from the Navy in June of 1994, as an Aviation Electronics Technician, First Class (AT1).


Thanks for all the work that has gone into putting this website together. I was able to download pictures and some of the documents to put into Dad's folder in our digital family album we have on our hard drive.

Came on board Nov. 67 as RDSN. I became good friends with Calvin Klaus and Mark Deathridge. Had some great times with Calvin going up to Tokyo a lot. I transferred to the Ok City in Nov. 68 with Calvin and Mark and about 7 other RDs including Jake Sailor, Russ Squires, Ray Odell, etc. Finished my career on the Ok City as an RD2.


Would be nice to hear from any of these guys.

I came on board the Providence in January of 1966 and left May 1969. I was a radarman 2nd class when I left. I have so many good memories of my years on the Providence. It seems like a lifetime ago.


If anyone remembers me send me an e-mail, love to here from you. I was 17 years old when I came on board the Providence in 1966, I an now 67 years old. What can I say

Hi Sam,


This is very impressive. I had no idea you were not only in the Navy, but that we had so much in common. I have several friends who served on the submarine, USS PROVIDENCE (SSN 719), and even today, I am peripherally involved with respect to their communications systems.
