Back in the early 80's the choir came to sing for the children at Spandau School Berlin where I was Headteacher. They were in Berlin to sing at the Military Tattoo as guests of the Welsh Guards. All the children assembled and it was an ashen faced choir that slowly trooped in, lead by one John Sharkey the fireman, an old rugby adversary of mine. They were certainly a little fragile having discovered that the Berlin brews packed a bit more punch than those served in the @!#%& Tavern and the Corinthian. However, the moment the pianist struck the first note, they were transformed. There followed one of the best performances you could wish for. It delighted staff, pupils and parents alike and remains one of my great abiding memories of my time in that great city.

Just like to say that I had a wonderful time last night (25.03.10)listening to you all practice for your show this coming weekend at Luton, and would like to thank Phillis for letting me borrow the song books and helping me find all the songs in time for me to sing/read along...Very quietly honestly hehe. You sound absolutely amazing and some of them very moving. I would also like to to say thanks to my uncle Harry for inviting me along and no I didn't find it boring thanks again and I look forward to coming to see/listen to you in the albert hall and possibly Manchester also. Till then chin up :)

Just back from a very enjoyable concert at Eton College. The Choir, Gwawr Edwards (soloist) Simon Dinsdale (Organ) and Pianist Annabel Thwaite were all on good form and I particularly enjoyed Working Men with choir soloist David Williams and You'll Never Walk Alone with Gwawr Edwards joining the choir. I look forward to seeing and hearing them again hopefully in Luton on 27 March next year in a Fund Raising Concert for Rotary

I feel a little bit the same about Miss Edwards, though also about the other singer, Mr. Hughes-Jones - both over-rated and under-prepared. However it is easy to be shown up by the superb musicianship of the pianist Miss Thwaite, clearly more a star than the other performers on show. Overall, though, despite the disappointing soloists and organ performance, an enjoyable concert and good quality DVD, thankyou.

In regards to the comments on my earlier post I apologize, I meant Gwawr Edwards and not Annabel Thwaite. Miss Edwards does indeed have an excellent international reputation, but then again, so does Paul Potts. Most people I have spoken to about the concert have agreed with me. They found it boring, lethargic and unexciting in terms of repertoire.

We have just watched the DVD (via projector and surround sound)of the 2008 Albert Hall concert, the comments of your earlier correspondent are mind boggling. As for Miss Edwards..........Stunning! There was some involuntary clapping from our audience, and that was in our crowded front room! Bendigedig!
