My great grandfather was Noble Brown Gray and his grandfather was Joshua M. Perry. I found this site while looking up information on him and the 53rd Infantry. I'm trying to put together a family history for my Mom this Mother's Day and really love the information you've put in here!

I have much information I can share about my branch of Matthews in Maury County Tennessee. I have written a couple of papers. My 92 year old Mother lives on the original 1815 Deed Farm of Joseph Matthews. It was recently certified as a "200 Year Old Farm" by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture.
I am a direct descendant of James Matthews Jr. and Mary Doak, and their Son, Joseph Matthews. I am in the process of getting Joseph certified as a "Pioneer" in the First Families of Maury County.
I have been Y-DNA 37 tested and I communicate regularly with 5 more "cousins" with whom I match.
To answer one of your questions in your paper, James W. Matthews, the Maury County Surveyor, is James Washington Matthews. One of his survey books is at the Maury County Archives.
My research group would very much like some firm information on the parents of James Matthews Jr.
About a year ago we were contacted by a Lawrence County Matthews descendant living in Florence Al. He did the Y-DNA testing and to our surprise, we did not have a match.
I will be happy to share data via my e-mail address.

Enjoyed reading the stories about Maw Perrys home. I rember my dad & uncles telling some of the same ones. When we was kids camping every weekend on Knob Creek. This website is amazing! I can't tell you how much I enjoy reading and hearing the stories told. My mother's (Dorothy Broadhurst) father was Solon Earnest Matthews. If anyone has any photos of him in his latter years, I would enjoy viewing them. He was married to Edna Matthews, my mom's mother. Does anyone remember Edna & Solon as a husband & wife?
