| Does anyone have any info on Patrick McElhinney. He was a dock labourer and later foreman for the Guiness Boats in Liverpool from about 1920 to 1960's??

Irish Coast Guard, agencies & volunteers commended for Union Hall search
Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar TD has commended the Irish Coast Guard, the numerous other agencies, and the local communities of West Cork and Bunmahon for their assistance in the search for five missing persons from the fishing vessel Tit Bonhomme.
The final missing person was located this afternoon.
“From the moment the first call came through to the Coast Guard, the helicopter crews, West Cork volunteer Coast Guard units, numerous other agencies and countless volunteers have worked tirelessly to search for the missing persons, often in difficult conditions.
“I understand that the Coast Guard wishes to acknowledge the tremendous cooperation received from the various agencies, and particularly from the local community, as well as volunteers from all over the country who freely gave their time to join in the search for the missing people.
“The support shown to the families, and the tangible spirit of volunteerism throughout the search, is a testament to everyone involved.
“We can only hope that the families of the fishermen can now finally take same solace. I would like to express my condolences to all of the families, and to the local communities, during this very sad time.”

COVENEY OPENS PUBLIC CONSULTATION PROCESS ON HOW TO HARNESS
IRELANDS OCEAN WEALTH
Simon Coveney TD, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, today launched a public consultation process on how to harness the potential of Irelands vast marine resource to tap into a Trillion Euro global market for marine products & services (including seafood, tourism, shipping, oil and gas, renewable ocean energy and new applications for health, medicine and technology).
Launching the public consultation Our Ocean Wealth, Minister Coveney said, We need to change the way we in Ireland think about the sea and look for new opportunities to harness the potential of our 220 million acre marine resource. This government is determined to generate the momentum to drive forward a new era of sustainable economic development across the maritime sectors - we must avail of these opportunities to assist in our recovery. We want your help to shape our plan, to shape our future and to assist in our drive towards our nations economic recovery.
This public consultation represents a significant step in a process to develop an Integrated Marine Plan for Ireland and move from generating only 1.2% of GDP from this vast and diverse marine resource, which covers an area 10 times the size of Irelands land mass.
Minister Coveney added We need an Integrated Marine Plan to harness our ocean wealth, get the environment right for investment and use the potential of our marine economy to create jobs in a sustainable manner.
Get informed about the issues and join the debate at http://www.ouroceanwealth.ie/Pages/default.aspx
The consultation phase will be open until 31st March 2012 and it is envisaged that an Integrated Marine Plan will be published during summer 2012.

Irish Coast Guard to host major search & rescue conference in Ireland
A major international conference on search & rescue will take place later this year in Killiney, Co. Dublin which is being organised by the Irish Coast Guard in partnership with the UK-based Sheppard Group.
The Search & Rescue 2012 conference on March 15th and 16th will bring Coast Guard representatives from across Europe and the US, along with a range of other search & rescue experts. More than 200 delegates are expected to attend.
One of the keynote presentations will be from the Italian Coast Guard, which is attending in order to discuss the recent tragic incident of the Costa Concordia.
This is the first time that the conference has been held in Ireland. Dublin was chosen as a venue to mark the fact that Ireland is heading up the European Union Heads of Coast Guard. The Director of the Irish Coast Guards, Chris Reynolds, is currently chairing the network.
Coast guard chiefs from a number of countries will attend the conference including the US, UK and Sweden. All four Coast Guard helicopters will be on hand to give a search & rescue demonstration at an event in Weston Airport as part of the conference.
Irish Coast Guards director Chris Reynolds has been asked specifically to prepare the ground for a permanent European Union Heads of Coast Guard Secretariat, manned by Coast Guard Officers from Member States, the EU Commission and various agencies. This Secretariat currently meets monthly in Dublin with the plenary Conference planned for Dublin Castle in August.
Earlier this year Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Leo Varadkar confirmed that funding for the Irish Coast Guard and RNLI would be protected in 2012, and that capital funding has been allocated to refresh the Coast Guard’s fleet over the next couple of years.
