I am writing in behalf of my son .He is an inmate in an Ohio prison .I had noticed a change in his behavior when he would write me and call .
Sometimes he would be very depressed and and then very unpredictable.
I know he,has, had, past drug use but I knew there was something more going on.
He,finally told me that he was having excruciating
Headaches and forgeting simple things such as putting he shoes on before breakfast and phone numbers he has dialed for years.
The pain became unbearable and he was " self medicating " with suboxon strips that is smuggled in the prison .
He,finally went to the Dr. Who then sent him to the hospital for an MRI .his head also swelled up and his eyes were swollen shut from the pressure which finally got him to the Dr. .spinal fluid was leaking into his, brain and,the Dr. Said it was tau
protein .
He,ask my son if he,had, ever had, severe trauma to his brain he told him I'm in prison so yes I've had blows to my head ,after he,had,a chance to think it over he remembers a time he was

I am a 56 year old woman who was repeatedly beaten by my father continuously for over 10 years, his favorite thing was to smash my head against a cinderblock wall. I was then in a bicycle accident in '97 when I received a severe concussion. Since then I have been diagnosed with severe depression, temporal lobe epilepsy, atrophy of my frontal lobes. , and chronic pain. I have been committed twice and had 17 sessions of electroconvulsive therapy. Now I am having rage issues, constant thoughts of death and such feelings of sadness and guilt that I am not who I used to be. I need some information I can trust, and maybe someone who can help my husband/caregiver. Thank you.

MY HUSBAND IS 49 YERAS OLD. HE GREW UP IN A DISFUNCTIONAL FAMILY WITH A MOTHER WHO SUFFERED FROM MENTAL ILLNESS AND A FATHER WHO USED HERION FOR MOST OF HIS CHILDHOOD. DUE TO POOR SUPERVISION HE SUFFERED NUMEROUS CONCUSSIONS AS A CHILD, AT LEAST 5 DOCUMENTED (HIT BY CAR, FELL OUT WINDOW, ROCK THROWN AT HEAD ETC). THEN AT AGE OF 25 HE WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT, HAD SEVERE BRAIN TRAMA AND WAS IN A COMA FOR 3 WEEKS.AFTER THIS HE SUFFERED AT LEAST 2 MORE CONCUSSIONS DUE TO RECKLESS BEHAVIOR. I ALWAYS CHALKED HIS BEHAVIOR UP TO MENTAL ILLNESS/SUBSTANCE ABUSE (WHICH IAM SURE HASN'T HELPED}HOWEVER AFTER SEEING NUMEROUS DOCTORS, NEUROLOGIST AND PHYSCHIATRITS THEY HAVE CONCLUDED HE SUFFERS FROM CTE. PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU LIKE ANY SUPPORT. I AM BLOWN AWAY BY THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM THIS !! MY THOUGHTS GO OUT TO ALL OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AS THE WIFE I KNOW IT IS JUST AS HARD TO HAVE THE DISEASE AS TO LIVE WITH SOMEONE THAT DOES !!

My husband, a former NY Giant, recently passed away. He suffered many years with this disease and tried to commit suicide several times. He had all of the symptoms of the disease, depression, confusion, hearing voices in his head, aggression and destructive behavior. He was only 50 years old and in good physical condition. He will be missed dearly.

I played inside linebacker in the SEC in the late 80's. I had three diagnosed concussions and probably 5-6 that I didn't let the coaches know about. After doing extensive research on CTE I know that I more than likely have CTE.

For 27 years I was domestic violence victim; I've now graduated to "domestic violence survivor".

I suffered at least 20 concussions, in an 18 month period of time from direct blows to the head. Additionally, I have been strangled (multiple times; once till I became unconscious), suffocated (multiple times; one incredibly terrifying time was nearly successful). And when those methods failed to stop my pulse permanently, the attempts to end my life became truly novel: multiple times, I was shook me so severely that I have no idea why my neck didn't snap like a toothpick. I thought every time was going to be the last time. It was during one of those shaking sessions that I was discovered that sometimes cartoons are exactly right: stars and explosions DO spin around a person's head if something injurious enough happens to their head.

The only reason I am still alive to write this, is because my church created an escape route for me, saved my life and presently are engaged in the process of helping me transform

My husband suffered concussions during high school football and wrestling. 5 yrs ago he had to quit working. State disability department does not recognize all of his diagnoses, even clearly put as TBI due to concussions. Waiting on hearing after all the denials. In the meantime he suffers from every textbook list of symptoms due to CTE. We need help getting him to a place where they can treat the whole person and not just medicate the brain.

I have suffered for 4 years from CTE. I have been forced to step down from my Head Football Coaching position at American River College. I desperately desire to get better and return to helping young men grow through the game of football.
