I joined VA-106 in April of 1963 after spending 2 years in VU-10 at Gitmo. Much to my surprise, VA-106 left shortly after I joined the squadron for a shake-down cruise on the Shangri-LA CVA-38 to Gitmo. Since I had just come from there, the Skipper put me ashore to handle any of the squadrons needs via midnight small stores. It worked well and it was great for me to see all my former squadron mates even if they laughed at me coming right back to Gitmo.
I left VA-106 in the middle of the Med Cruise of 63 and was separated from the Navy in Norfolk,VA and I arrived home the day President Kennedy was killed.
I understand the tombstone of VA-106 when it was disestablished in 1969 now resides in the Ready Room of VFA-106 at Oceania, VA
Cheers to all,
Paul "Mac" McBride, ADJ3

This is my first time on the guestbook; but it won't be my last. I'm going to encourage more participation on this page. It can be a great tool for keeping up with our shipmates.

I really wanted to express my gratitude for being able to attend this year's reunion in Nashville with my father, Waldo. It was great fun to hear some stories from and about my Dad about his time in the Navy. We were also welcomed by all that we met with a special thanks to Monte for sitting down with my sister and cousin at the early bird dinner. Looking forward to the possibility of coming next year if I'm able.
PS My Dad now forwards me copies of the newsletter so I can keep up
