Every year the carnival came to downtown for it's run. It restricted travel so the merchants moved it around from area to area. Everybody got their turn. 1960 I think is the year it was in front of Niles grocery, the horses and other animals spinning ceaselessly as this catchy tune played. And played. And played. At first, Niles, John English and the rest of us started whistling or singing or humming along. And to prove the old rule, familiarity bred contempt. Over and over the same song in it's shortened version played, as regular as an atomic clock. They only had one song. Guess it sounded like money to them . The things we plotted as revenge are best not spoken of here, suffice to say we wanted to set the horses free , release them from their bolts holding them to the Carrousel . We did not. In the end we were glad to see them leave, pretty though they were. To this day if I hear " Buffalo Girl Won't You Come Out Tonight ", I am 17 years old and my version of It was a wonderful life rep |

I have fond memories of everyone in this class. The class of 1961 was a great bunch of mentors. I may have to sneak to Guthrie and check in on your reunion.

Congratulations on your GHS 1961 Website.
It is very well organized and user friendly for those of us who are still challenged with the computer.
Seeing familiar names and the photos have been fun and nostalgic. Thank you for the wonderful tributes to Mr. Don Odom and Don Ringrose.
Best Wishes for a wonderful 50th Class Reunion this fall 2011.

enjoyable website - nice to see what such young folks can do :)
be blest!!
oops - i see your software doesn't agree with the word "blest" - comes from days of telegraph that were paid for by each letter, so blessed was abbreviated to "blest" - is used today to convey a sincere as message as possible -vs- the yours truly type of closing - so be blest!! |
