My dad William was born at Knoll Farm Tansley. Son of William Taylor and Doris Fish. He left there shortly after his fathers death and and moved to a farm in lincolnshire Bunkers Hill. At that time 45 acres which he,grew,to 300. We,have been here 52 years i have taken on the tennancy since 2011. Sadly dad, William, passed away today 9th January 2024. He spoke of Tansley both in love and resent.he loved his former hone but missed it equally. He was a remarkable resilient man. Part of him is hone, in Tansley the rest is here. Where he made his mark.

My great grandmother's family came from Tansley and left c.1905 or so to live in Oldham. I believe some remained in Tansley. Her father was Henry Marsh, b. 1856. I'm working on a family tree. Feel free to get in touch if we are related.

Cheers,

John

My name is David Hughes and my Father was born in Tansley in 1908. His brother William Andrew was killed in the Great War in 1917 and is commemorated on the stone in Tansley churchyard. I have made many visits over the years trying to trace the Family. There was William the eldest son, rose,Anniie,Mary, Kate (the crippled one) and lastly my Father George James. My parents were married in St Helens Darley Dale in 1929 and My elder siblings Jim,Mavis, and John were all born in the Thirties and then my younger sister Brenda and I were born during the war in 1943 and 1945..As the centenary of Wills death is on the 28th September this year it seemed a good way of commemorating his and other brave Tansley mens achievements in fighting for our freedom to make contact with their Parish of birth and ask if there are still residents around or their families who may have known my family. I intend to make the trip up this year to place a cross on Wills stone in late September. Tansley and surrounding area have always had a special place in our hearts and even today as my elder sister Mavis is but a few days short of her 86th birthday she will be still talking of her early life around Darley Dale. Can anyone please help us to locate other Residents who may remember them. I do enjoy looking each month on the website at the monthly pictures and trying to remember where they are situated. Many thanks

Hello!

One of my ancestors, Mary Ann Kempe, was married at Holy Trinity Church in Tansley in Oct. 1859. I would like to learn more about her family in the area. I would be grateful for any information on how I could do so. I am thinking that perhaps Tansley has a historical society I could contact. Thank you very much for your assistance with this.

I am very grateful for your time and consideration,

Pauline H.

Dear Pauline,

Thank you for your enquiry. I can confirm that a marriage entry exists in the church's register showing the lady's marriage to Benjamin Porry. I have no further information about her. There is no historical society in Tansley, sorry.

Best wishes

Chris

I am very proud to be teaching my yoga classes in such a beautiful and friendly village such as Tansley, I have been walking around Tansley and visiting the various churches and halls for various events for 9 years since living in Matlock. (i.e. for films, classes, church coffee mornings, lunches, flower festivals, and xmas events).

The staff that look after these halls and churches deserve a big "thank you".

I love the people, venues and environment, and the nearby garden centres, we are very lucky here in the Dales.

Thank you Kate.
