I found this site while surfing the net. I was assigned to special weapons. It's been over twenty years but I still remember a good bit about the time I spent with the 30th. in Augsburg and of course Graf. I would really like to touch base with mike sommers or kelly medina if anyone knows how to get in contact with them. I saw several old postings from kevin Nolen and Leeroy Palmer.I tried to e-mail but the accounts were out dated. Those were good times even in Graf and Reforge. hoping for a response spec 4 Michael Harris Message Number: 50 - Friday, August 7, 2009 06:18:28 CST [IP = 207.119.200.146] -United States ![]()
It took me a few years but i finaly found some guys i was in nam with. I got phone numbers and called them. It was great to talk to them after all these years. I hope to make it to Fort Sill next year for the reunion and i hope they can make it. There is nobody that understands us then the guys that went thru it. There are still guys i am still looking for and i will continue to look for them. It is amazing that after all these years i can close my eyes and be back on those fsb and lz vividly. So hi to everyone and i am glad we all made it back safe and alot of sorrow for those and their families that did not make it. My uncle, LTC Ivan Boon, assumed command of the 2/12 in early March 1969 at LZ Grant after the previous commanded was killed in the 2nd of 3 attacks by the NVA. My uncle died several years ago but never talked about VietNam. (1)I'm looking for anyone who may have known at that time at Grant. And (2) I'm also looking for detailed information about Grant itself, i.e. locations of its defenses, gun emplacements, bunkers, the TOC, the 105/155 placements, the chow hall, the old French bunker, etc. We are trying to reconstruct that time period in my uncle's life. I am actually the daughter of J.C. Plumley and am trying to locate anyone that may have been in Vietnam with him. He never talked about Vietnam until my daughters interviewed him for a school report and now talks about it quite a bit. He has mentioned a guy from Hawaii that they called "pineapple" and even has a pic with him. His platoon named an artillery gun after a town, Gadsden Georgia after receiving a card with all the towns people signature including the mayor. Sorry I can't remember names of the areas where he was while in Vietnam. I know he completed basic training in Oklahoma. I was hoping to find some of the guys so I could surprise him for his birthday in July. Thank you in advance for anyone that could help me out. Angie Burden, Morgantown Ky.
