My maiden name is Hunter and I have traced the Hunter side of my family back to the l706 and Ottringham. They lived in Ottringham until 1900 when my side of the family moved to Nottingham and then Manchester. My father Benjamin Hunter is now 88 and lives in Lancashire and I myself now live in Spain. Whilst I have been researching the family I have become fascinated in the fact that Ottringham is such a small place and so many of the family lived there for so long. Also felt that many of the family would have been buried at a local cemetry/chuch. If you would like more information about my side of the family or could help with any infor about Ottringham and the local Hunter community and if they still reside there, please do not hesitate to contact me. Some time I will come over to England to Ottringham - a place I am fascinated with.

I am presently researching my family tree (Hunter) but from Ottringham. According to the records I have from 1706 to 1840 at least Hunter families lived in Ottringham which is a very small village in the same area as your Hunter family. My father Benjamin Hunter who is now 88 and lived in Bolton Lancashire all his life does vaguely remember going to the area for a holiday when he was about l2 ande has fond memories of it. I have trying hard to find out more about Ottringham and Hunters involvement in the area and perhaps which Cemetry they will have been buried at. If you have any further information I would be grateful - including pictures and can give you any information I have if required - although it does seem to be a different side of the family. I have contacted East Ryding Archives office but they want me to go in and as I live in Spain - it will be difficult at the moment - however in the future may make a special trip there. Many thanks for listening and any help you can give. Yvonne Burgess (nee Hunter)

I am a Messingham that married into the family, hence bringing two Messingham children into the world, David Arthur, and Nicole Sheri. I notice that your grandfather was Arthur Messingham. I am in America and I would only assume that Arthur was a name passed down. My father in law, too, was Arthur Messingham, he was also in America. He married Ruth and had four children. I know he had a brother named George. Do you know any connection to the Messinghams that came state side?

Just found this site. Used to run a web site called Halsham but the Halsham council had no interest in setting up a proper web site so I dropped it. The pub hasn't been opened since the great flood of two years ago and its now up for sale. I notice that Google Earth is displaying some 'photos of Halsham which seem to be of greenhouses that you find near Burstwick. So people, please don't think we have market gardens down Dalton lane.
