My first ship back after a 6 yrs out of the Navy. Reserves sent me to Pearl Harbor for 3 weeks and when I got home, I told the wife (Wanda) if it wasn't for you and our son, "I'd go back Regular in the Navy". She said so what is keeping us from going. Next day talked to the Recruiter and we ended up on the Dyess, and 24 yrs later we retired as an MMCM (SW).

I served aboard The Dyess from 4/63 to 2/64. Was-Deck Ape, Postal Clerk. Transferred off to FBM SUBTRACEN. I enjoyed my time on the Dyess, learned a
Lot and had the seagoing experience that so few people ever get to have. Hello to Lt (jg) Darryl Grinstead. Good guy.

My Grandfather Murray Adams(gmg3)61-63, was never very computer literate but I was able to take him to this website and show him around before he passed march 30th. It meant so much to him to see that the Dyess wasn't forgotten.

QM 75-76
Katz hated me. Called me a tempestuous bastard. LTJG Tom Kiernan was aces in my book.

I served aboard from 4/63 to 8/65. Spent a summer in Boston Naval Shipyard where Dyess was repaired after returning from the Med in a Hurricane. The ship was converted to DD from DDR. The FRAM conversion also gave us a DASH weapon and an ASROC.which gave us nuclear weapons. after leaving the Navy in 1965 I became a National Park Ranger in Glacier National Park. My wife Lind is also a Park Ranger. I would like to contact my Dyess friend: Lt Darrel J. Grinsted
