Hi.. Wanted to record a sighting of a Pine Grosbeak last week (May 27th) here in Bay Center. Has anyone sighted this bird on the peninsula? I have been keeping bird records for over two decades (have seen over 200 species from Bay Center) but this was my first observation of this one. It is a large robust finch type with defining wing bar and color pattern. This was the russet colored variation. It hit a window (softly) and sat for about 2 minutes on a bush in front of the glass which allowed us very good viewing. It flew off in good shape. If anyone is interested in moth taxonomy might I suggest my Flickr postings to help ID a specimen. Posted are images of around 350 species from here in Bay Center. An interesting mystery, Taerie! Eggs should not turn color. My guess (and its only that) is that the starlings have returned, pitched out the white eggs, and took over. Lack of dumped egg debris might just mean that some critter or a crow just ate them all. Observation of your box will soon tell you who the parents of the blue eggs are. If you figure out a more satisfying solution to the conundrum please let us know.

I am hoping someone can help me out here. I have a bird of prey nesting box mounted about 12 feet high on the edge of my pasture/tree line. Last year a starling raised a brood in it.
About a week ago I noticed a nest being built out of grasses. Then there were 2 oval white eggs that looked like possibly a screech owl. They looked similar to tree swallow eggs but there were no feathers in the nesting materials. I checked again and now there are oval eggs, same size but are now pale bluish. Looking at id material on websites, I suspect they are again starling eggs. Does anyone know if the starling will remove other eggs to lay their own?? I have not seen any egg material on the ground by the nesting box. How did the eggs change color??????
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
Taerie

   Hi,

I just found your website with Noah and the bunnies on it.  While I certainly apppreciate your interest in Noah's story, I think it is important that the following information be added right away:

Photograph by Bob Lenham (on each of the photographs of Noah and the Bunnies)

   Story by Georganne Adams Lenham

I am in the process of releasing Noah's story in hardback book form within a month and am trying to clarify where Noah lives and where folks can read about him/our rescue ranch, as well as order the book(s). (Two additional stories will be released this year).

Thank you so much for your expediency in this matter.  Time is of the essence, of course, so please feel free to contact me if you have any questions whatsoever.

God bless each of you and your efforts on behalf of God's precious creatures!

Happy Easter.

Sincerely,

Georganne Adams Lenham

Dear Discovery Coast Audubon, We found a young Common Murre on the beach at Ocean Park last week. It was getting dark and cold, and as we approached, the poor little bird scurried over to us, huddling next to my husband's shoes for shelter from the wind. I located Discover Coast's phone number, and your volunteer was incredibly helpful and efficient at identifying the bird, explaining how to handle it, and coordinating a meeting point so that we could get the bird to rehabilitation. Thank you so much for your rehabilitation work and fine volunteers. We are happy to support and sing the praises of Discovery Coast Audubon Society! I am planning a trip to your area this year.  Before I pick a month I am trying to determine what goes on each month, what month is best to see what birds/wildlife, etc.  Any input you can give me would be tremendously appreciated.

Thank you,  Patsy Epperson
